In 1949, Max Raskin, a member of Paisley Magic Circle, discussed, with any one who would listen, his idea of setting up an association of magical clubs in Scotland.
On the 16th December 1951 an Association of magical clubs was formed, which would be known as S.A.M.S. short for ‘The Scottish Association of Magical Societies’.
The following year in 1952 they arranged to have a their first magical convention. To help ensure a good convention Harold McMillan and Max Raskin presented cups for competitions. The McMillan Shield was awarded for a Stage act and the Max Raskin cup for best children’s act. The Winner of the First Max Raskin Cup was Johnny Geddes, 57 years ago.
This year in 2009 S.A.M.S. was held in Montrose on 1st-3rd May. It is with great joy and pride that Magic Pete can confirm that he won The Max Raskin Trophy beating off stiff competition in the process in his first year of competing!
Next year Magic Pete is hoping to compete in the UK Children’s entertainer of the year, held annually in Blackpool.
Good luck Pete!
